i was again introduced to this song by my mum when i was young. i remember her playing this song and i put it up with some of the best music i have ever heard. the vocals even today could fit into some indie band or something of the sort and still work perfectly. the guitar riff also is so simple yet so affective it just stays with you and probably one of the most memorable riffs of all time.
The song was first released in the album Disreali Gears in November 1967 but later released as a single in January 1968. the song at the time only reached number 25 in the charts but in 2004, the song was ranked at number 65 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 19 on its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. In 2009 it was named the 44th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. The song is also a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll list.
